MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Military prosecutors have uncovered that around 157 million rubles were misappropriated during the construction of a Russian Strategic Rocket Forces (RVSN) facility in Chukotka, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said on its website on Thursday.
"Based on the results of an inquiry conducted by the Military Prosecutor's Office of the Strategic Rocket Forces, a criminal case has been opened based on charges of fraud involving budget funds allocated for the armed forces (Article 159 of the Russian Penal Code) and abuse of power (Article 285 of the Russian Penal Code)," it said.
The prosecutors have established that employees of construction firms in charge of implementing a contract with the Russian government on the construction of a military facility in Chukotka "falsified reports addressing the progress of the project, mentioning untrue volumes," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
"Control measurements have shown that the contractor failed to fulfill his obligations as part of the state contract, which was seriously overvalued, causing the state to lose nearly 157 million rubles," it said.
