Moscow: unclear whether militants slain in Pakistan Russians

MOSCOW. May 19 (Interfax) - Russia's Foreign Ministry on Thursday claimed it could not yet confirm Pakistani media reports that five militants killed by Pakistani security forces in the Balochistan province on Tuesday had Russian passports.

The Russian Consulate in Karachi has asked the Pakistani Foreign Ministry for comprehensive information on the incident and for the passports of the militants, killed in the vicinity of the city of Quetta.

"It appears to be premature to assert that those killed were Russian citizens before the Consulate General receives those documents, before they undergo an appropriate verification procedure with the subsequent identification of those killed," the ministry said in a statement.
