BISHKEK. May 20 (Interfax) - A lawyer for Turkish citizen Ali Osman Zor held in Kyrgyzstan has said his client was detained at the request of Ankara and the U.S. authorities because of his anti-American activities.
"Before that Zor had lived in Kyrgyzstan for three years and no one was disturbing him," said lawyer Guven Iylmyz, adding that the arrest happened soon after the informal visit to Bishkek by former World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz, who is connected to the U.S. intelligence agencies.
Zor was detained by Kyrgyz security forces in May 2011 at the request of the Turkish prosecutor general's office which accused him of having links with Al-Qaeda.
"Zor was detained by Kyrgyz security forces at the behest of the Turkish and U.S. authorities in view of his anti-American activity," the lawyer said.
