MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - Expelled Israeli military attache Vadim Leiderman attempted to obtain intelligence on Russia's military-technical cooperation with foreign countries, the Federal Security Service's (FSB) Public Relations Center told Interfax on Friday.
"On instructions from the Israeli military intelligence service, Leiderman attempted to gather intelligence from Russian state executives on plans for bilateral military-technical cooperation, and military-technical cooperation with and aid to Arab states and countries of the CIS," it said.
"The documents available fully expose Leiderman's anti-Russian activities," the FSB said.
Leiderman's espionage activities have been stopped, it said.
"An angry protest was expressed to the Israeli ambassador to Russia at the Russian Foreign Ministry on May 13 in view of the irrefutable evidence pointing to the military attache's illegal activities in Russian territory and use of recruited Russian citizens as confidential informers," the FSB said.
Leiderman was declared persona non grata and expelled from Russia for engaging in operations damaging Russian national security and incompatible with his diplomatic status. He left Russia on May 14, it said.
