MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will deploy missile defense systems in its territory and is ready to integrate them in a European missile defense system currently being created, Army Gen. Nikolai Makarov, chief of the Russian General Staff, said.
"We have weapons that can protect Russia. And if we deploy them in our territory, which we are going to do, the systems will have some impact zone. And if these systems are installed on the border with the adjacent countries, this zone could cover them up as well," Makarov told a conference on missile defense issues in Moscow on Friday.
The European missile defense system could be controlled from a single center by rotating teams and crews. "This will be a huge financial saving," Makarov said.
"Russia is prepared to discuss this matter as far as NATO is prepared to discuss it," he said.
