DUSHANBE. May 20 (Interfax) - Tajik border guards and National Security Committee officers were attacked by an unknown armed group on the Tajik-Afghan border last night, Tajik Border Department spokesman Khushnud Rakhmatulloyev said.
"The border guards fired back, forcing the gang to retreat in the direction of Afghanistan," he said.
The incident occurred near the sixth checkpoint of the Pyanj border guard unit, some 200 kilometers south of the Tajik capital Dushanbe, Rakhmatulloyev said.
A Kalashnikov assault rifle, cartridges, ten kilograms of heroin, two kilograms of opium and two kilograms of hashish were confiscated from the site, he said.
