Russian foreign minister to meet Libyan opposition representative

MOSCOW. May 23 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet a Libyan opposition representative in Moscow on Monday.

Earlier a source on the minister's delegation told journalists that "on Monday Sergei Lavrov will meet a representative of Benghazi."

Previously the meeting was supposed to take place last Wednesday but Lavrov said it was put off at the request of the Libyan opposition. "We were informed that, unfortunately, representatives of insurgents in Benghazi who also requested meetings in Moscow were forced to postpone their arrival here for technical reasons," he said.

Last week Lavrov also met representatives of the Libyan government and also UN special envoy to Libya Abdelilah Al Khatib.

At the talks with the delegation from Tripoli Moscow urged the Libyan government to cooperate with the United Nations in the deliveries of humanitarian aid. Lavrov also said that the emissaries of Tripoli agreed to observe UN Security Council resolution #1973.

"The answer which we heard cannot be called negative. We were told that Tripoli is ready to consider such approaches that are based on the roadmap of the African Union and ready to implement the requirements of resolution #1973 on a full scale," he said.

He said that Tripoli wants the insurgents to follow suit and NATO to stop bombings.
