Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Tajik special forces to conduct joint drills

BISHKEK. May 23 (Interfax-AVN) - At a Bishkek meeting defense ministers from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have agreed to conduct joint training sessions and exercises involving special forces, the Kyrgyz Defense Ministry told Interfax on Friday.

The working meeting between defense ministers Abibilla Kudayberdiev of Kyrgyzstan, Adilbek Dzhaksybekov of Kazakhstan and Sherali Khayrulloyev of Tajikistan was held at the Ala-Archa state residence on May 20, the ministry said.

"At the meeting the parties discussed prospects for the military and military-technical cooperation and exchanged their views on regional security issues," the ministry said. Also, the parties considered joint consultations in the event of an emergency posing a threat to either party.

"They also agreed to develop mechanisms of comprehensive military cooperation and to provide military-technical aid to one another," the defense ministry said.

Kudayberdiev proposed to his counterparts to consider the possibility of resort treatment and holiday for Kazakh and Tajik servicemen and their family members at the Kyrgyz Defense Ministry's Tamga military sanatorium located in the resort area of the Issyk-Kul Lake.

"This was the first such meeting of the defense ministers in this format proposed by the Kyrgyz side," the defense ministry said.
