Batumi opposition joins Tbilisi protests

TBILISI. May 24 (Interfax) - A group of opposition activists from Batumi where protests were held on May 21, have joined a similar protest which has been held for three days now outside the Public Television building in Tbilisi.

Several motorcades with opposition members drove from Batumi to Tbilisi at various times, one of Batumi protest organizers Murman Dumbadze told journalists.

"About 20 motor vehicles have already been stopped at the exit from Adzharia. Drivers were stripped of their licenses and were unable to proceed. Some of the vehicles were stopped by police near the town of Gori. It is practically impossible to leave Adzharia for Tbilisi, there are no bus or even taxi services. One can say that today there is a serious traffic problem in Georgia," Dumbadze said.

Up to 2,000 people in Batumi were planning to join the Tbilisi protest, he said.

The protest in Tbilisi is continuing at this hour. Currently, up to 200 protestors are taking part despite a cold wind.
