Georgian authorities unable to put out fire of popular protests - opposition

TBILISI. May 26 (Interfax) - The dispersal of the opposition rally near the Georgian parliament building in Tbilisi in the small morning hours of Thursday was similar with the ones on April 9 and November 7, co-leader of the National Council Koba Davitashvili told the Georgian channel Maestro early in the morning.

"[Georgian President Mikheil] Saakashvili is the man who recurrently organizes the April 9 event for his people. I am indignant at what is happening, but the authorities cannot put out the fire of popular [protests] with water and teargas," he said.

A riot police unit used teargas, water guns and rubber pullets against the protesters soon after midnight. A number of people were hurt.
