Moscow sees progress over U.S. missile security guarantees

DEAUVILLE. May 27 (Interfax) - Russia insists on signing a legally binding document with the United States on mutual security guarantees regarding missile defense systems, said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.

"So far there has been no progress in terms of documentary reflection of what has been achieved in this area," he said at a briefing in Deauville.

"But certainly some progress has in fact been made. At the meeting in Deauville, Medvedev and Obama discussed in detail the subject of legally binding guarantees that the future U.S. missile defense system is not aimed against Russia's strategic nuclear forces," he said.

"All of these issues were raised on our part in an extensive form," he said.
