Urman arsenal will be closed - ministry

URMAN. May 27 (Interfax) - The ammunition warehouse in the village of Urman, Iglino district, Bashkortostan, where isolated explosions of ammunition have continued on Friday, will be closed, Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov told journalists.

"The arsenal was planned for winding-up and closure, it will be closed after the extinguishing and area recultivation," he said.

There are no fatalities or injuries among the base's servicemen, he said. The causes of the fire and subsequent explosions have yet to be established, the deputy minister said. The base stored 100-, 120- and 125-millimeter projectiles and illuminating charges - in all, around 90,000 tonnes.

There was not a single rocket or anti-tank projectile at this arsenal, he said.
