Tula design bureau offers wide range of counter-terrorist weapons

MINSK. May 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Tula-based Instrument Design Bureau (KBP) is offering to Russian and foreign customers a broad range of various small-arms weapons designed for fighting terrorists.

"Today we are developing and producing all types of arms which have been used efficiently in counterterrorism, from pistols to grenade launchers," KBP branch deputy general director Viktor Zelenko told Interfax-AVN at the MILEX-2011 international arms show closing in Minsk.

KBP also includes here anti-tank guided missiles (PTURs), he said.

When it comes to releasing hostages, non-lethalness and noiselessness are what really matters, he said.

"To address these issues today we offer a line of sniper rifles with five calibers and a wide range of 7.62 to 12.7 millimeter cartridges with any starting speed and a range of 1,800 meters," he said.

"Speaking of pistols, it is the famous GSh-18. We produce this pistol serially. It has a record-breaking low weight of just 500 grams and a high-capacity magazine - 18 cartridges. For his pistol, we have developed an anti-armor cartridge which can pierce all three main types of body armor," Zelenko said.

At the Minsk show KBP is also exhibiting the PP-2000 submachine gun which fires 9x19 millimeter cartridges, including anti-armor ones. "We produce this submachine gun serially. We supply mainly for the Interior Ministry and some for the FSB (Federal Security Service). The submachine gun has excellent ergonomics. It is fitted with all the necessary sighting systems," Zelenko said.

KBP also produces an upgraded under-barrel grenade launcher known as the GP-30M, as well as a six-barrel grenade launcher. These grenade launchers can fire a variety of ammunition. KBP has developed and is making a pump-action grenade launcher, GM-94, which can fire various lethal and non-lethal rounds. "With correct calculation, one can order a non-lethal round which allows to disable but not destroy," Zelenko said.

KBP develops non-lethal weapons, including rubber and thermobaric ones, and less-lethal pistols.
