Medvedev plays down proposed removal of Gaddafi

DEAUVILLE, France. May 30 (Interfax) - Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi's removal from power would not be a major event, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.

"As regards the departure of the current leader of the Libyan revolution - I mean Gaddafi - it naturally wouldn't play any significant role," Medvedev told a news conference in Deauville after a G8 summit.

But if Gaddafi steps down voluntarily, "it will be negotiable in what way this could be done - which country would be able to accept him, on what terms, and what he would be able to keep and what he would have to part with," Medvedev said.
