DEAUVILLE. May 30 (Interfax) - Recognition of the Palestinian state within the 1967 borders is the only way to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli problem, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has said.
"New modern approaches to the solution of the problem are needed," he said at a press conference after the G8 summit.
"Yesterday I told my colleague Barack Obama that I find the approach he expressed absolutely correct. It amounts to the understanding that both sides - Israeli and Palestinian -are responsible for the current state of affairs. That is the first thing. And secondly, the state should be established within the 1967 borders," Medvedev said.
"Yes, we should be taking into account realities that appeared later. Nevertheless, it is probably the only foundation on which a state could be formed," he said.
Russia recognized the Palestinian state a long time ago. "We have the Embassy of the state of Palestine in Russia. Therefore there is no such issue on our agenda," Medvedev said.
