Moscow welcomes U.S. decision to list Caucasus Emirate as terror organization

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomes the United States' decision to enter the Caucasus Emirate, controlled by international terrorist Doku Umarov, on the national list of terror organizations.

"We hope this step by the American side will be logically followed by the decision to lift its objections in Committee 1267 of the UN Security Council against listing the Caucasus Emirate as an organization involved in the activities of al-Qaeda and the Taliban movement," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

"The United States' step symbolizes support for Russia's policy with regards to the international terrorist elements active in the North Caucasus, involved in numerous terror attacks in Russian territory, a step that reflects the interests of the fight against terrorism as a whole and our countries' partnership and the Russian and American presidents' agreements to cooperate in the face of the common threat of terrorism," the Foreign Ministry said.
