MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - A policeman and a group of militants were killed in a security operation in a North Caucasus village on Friday in which the militants were besieged in a house, the National Anti-Terrorist Center (NAC) said.
The militants, "a maximum of three, according to preliminary information," were spotted and besieged as police were searching the village of Chontaul, Kizilyurt district, Dagestan Republic, on Friday, the NAC said in a statement.
Villagers living in nearby houses were evacuated "before the start of the active phase of the operation," the statement said.
After being told to surrender, the militants opened sporadic fire, killing one policeman.
"All the militants who were inside the house were liquidated in the course of the battle that followed," the NAC said.
