Bodies of militants killed in Dagestan discovered

MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax) - The bodies of two militants killed in a special effort have been discovered in the village of Chontaul, Dagestan, a source in law enforcement told Interfax on Sunday.

The bodies are now being identified.

On May 27 the National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reported that all militants surrounded in a house in Chontaul had been eliminated.

"A group of up to three militants has been surrounded in a homestead as a result of operative efforts. People were evacuated from nearby houses before the beginning of the active phase of the operation," the report said.

The militants responded to the suggestion to surrender and lay down arms by sporadic fire in which one police officer was killed.

"All militants hiding in the house were eliminated in the following armed clash," NAC reported.
