TBILISI. May 30 (Interfax) - The Georgian Main Prosecutor's Office has accused Badri Bitsadze, the husband of opposition leader Nino Burjanadze and former head of the Georgian Border Guard Service, of a series of attacks on police officers.
"The Main Prosecutor's Office has found Badri Bitsadze guilty of organizing attacks on police officers," Georgian Deputy Main Prosecutor David Sakvarelidze told a briefing on Monday.
The charges against Bitsadze have been brought "on the basis of the evidence given by detained Giya Uchava, the head of the opposition People's Assembly's semi-military group, five witnesses, video and audio materials, and other evidence."
However, the prosecutors will request that the court release Bitsadze on bail, Sakvarelidze said.
The police dispersed an opposition rally in central Tbilisi on May 26. According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, 105 people were detained.
The Tbilisi City Court has sentenced some 90% of the detainees to two months of administrative arrest.
Shota Utiashvili, the head of the Interior Ministry's analytical department, earlier told Maestro television that the detainees had firearms with them.
In the meantime, some Georgian media have reported that Tbilisi detention facilities are lacking space for detainees and many have been transferred to the regions.
