MOSCOW. May 30 (Interfax-AVN) - The air defense units will receive 440 missile and artillery systems in 2011 and another 100 systems will be modernized, head of the Army Air Defense Forces Maj. Gen. Alexander Leonov said at a conference at the Army Air Defense Academy.
"The combat power of air defense units of military districts will grow up to 40% on some parameters in the near future," he said.
The units will receive S-300V Polyana D4M1 anti-aircraft missile brigade automation systems, Barnaul-T tactical control systems, radar, radio-technical reconnaissance and warfare systems, new shoulder-held anti-aircraft missile systems and anti-aircraft guided missiles, he said.
This year's defense orders will equip four brigade command posts with Barnaul-T automatic control systems, an artillery division of the Eastern Military District with modern anti-aircraft missiles, an anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Central Military District with additional Buk-M2 systems, and air defense units of brigades with prospective shoulder-held anti-aircraft missile systems.
The development of prospective medium and shorter range anti-aircraft missile systems, shoulder-held anti-aircraft missile systems, and the modernization of Osa and Tungska anti-aircraft systems will be complete in 2011.
"Units will be armed for neutralizing aerospace threats. Army air defense units will continue to be arranged in depth, and a new-generation training center will open at the 167th training base," he said.
