KYIV. May 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Ukraine has accomplished an overhaul of the first set of Mil Mi-8T combat helicopters at the Sevastopol plant under a contract of about $550 million with Iraq.
The acceptance certificate for the first two Mil Mi-8T choppers was signed on Sunday, May 29, UkrSpetsExport told Interfax.
"The repaired helicopters will soon be sent to Iraq," the company said.
There is no information on how many helicopters would be repaired in all.
The Sevastopol aircraft plant of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry does the works.
The Progress specialized foreign trade economy, a subsidiary of UkrSpetsExport, signed the contract with Iraq in 2009. It is supposed to start a series of military-technical cooperation agreements between the two countries.
The contract stipulates the delivery of over 400 pieces of armor, including BTR-4 armored personnel carriers, six light transport planes Antonov An-32 and repairs of aircraft within three or 3.5 years.
