MOSCOW. June 1 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday argued that a compromise between Libya's dictator Muammar Qadhafi and opposition is possible but insisted that "external players, including those who have ventured to overstep the mandate of the UN Security Council resolution shouldn't stand in the way of those forces."
"There is a possibility of a compromise because the opposition admits that it is absolutely essential that representatives of Qadhafi should take part in future negotiations. The main thing is that external forces, external players, including those who have ventured to overstep the mandate of the UN Security Council resolution, shouldn't stand in the way of those forces," Lavrov told reporters.
The opposition insists that the future negotiations be conducted with neural people or technocrats, notQadhafi or his family.
"The opposition are also ready to see representatives of the armed forces and security services who have not stained themselves with blood participate in the negotiations," Lavrov said.
"These are reasonable proposals and we will continue promoting them and helping this process, using the mediation of the African Union," he said.
"We are seeing elements on the basis of which agreements can be reached to cease fire and begin negotiations," the Russian minister said.
