Medvedev signs bill tightening responsibility for breaking fire safety rules

MOSCOW. July 6 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has signed into law amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses related to fire safety issues, the Kremlin press service reported on Monday.

The bill is aimed at tightening civil responsibility for breaking fire safety requirements.

Amendments have been made in the Code of Administrative Offenses in line with which the time limitation in cases of violation of fire safety rules have been extended from two months to one year and the sizes of fines increased for breaking rules of fire safety on railways, in water and air transport.

Civil liability was also tightened for failing to fulfill the prescription of fire safety oversight bodies.

In addition, the article on violations of fire safety requirements is stated in a new expanded wording that stipulates for greater civil liability for violation of fire safety requirements to the installation of electric appliances in buildings and primary fire extinguishing means and also to fire exits.

The State Duma passed the bill on May 10 and the Federation Council backed it on May 25.
