No final decision made yet on where Mistral-class ships will be based in Russia - source

MAGDEBURG. June 20 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian military leadership has not yet made a final decision on where to station two Mistral-class amphibious assault ships Russia is going to buy from France, Gen. Nikolai Makarov, the chief of staff of the Russian armed forces, told Interfax-AVN.

"We have not yet made a final decision on this," Makarov said.

"There is enough time" to decide where the ships will be based "until they come into being," he said.

A Russian Defense Ministry source had told Interfax-AVN earlier that two Mistral-class ships, which Russia is to buy from France under a contract the two signed earlier in the day, would be attached to Russia's Pacific Fleet.
