Kamchatka coastguards detain three vessels for illegal fishing

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. June 20 (Interfax) - The Kamchatka coastguard stopped three vessels and fined two captains over the weekend for various offences.

An industrial vessel, the Shurvind, registered at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, was escorted to the Avachinsk Harbor after about 150 kilograms of undeclared crabs were discovered in its hold, the Federal Security Service's Northeastern Coastguard Department reported on Monday.

The second ship, the Sinshiro Maru, owned by the Sakhalin-based company Atlantik, was stopped after 1.2 tonnes of unregistered red salmon were found aboard the ship. The captain was fined about 50,000 rubles, it said.

The crew of the Tarutino vessel, registered at Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, had crossed the Russian state border ten times without notifying the border authorities. The ship was stopped at Severo-Kurilsk for a check. The captain was fined 300,000 rubles.
