High-ranking Russian diplomat discusses missile defense in U.S.

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - High-ranking Russian and U.S. diplomats have discussed missile defense problems.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ellen Tauscher in Washington on Friday as co-chairs of a working group on arms control and international security under the Russian-U.S. bilateral presidential commission, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported.

Ryabkov and Tauscher discussed "missile defense problems and a number of issues on the international agenda regarding nonproliferation of WMD and control over conventional weapons in Europe," it said.

On July 20, Ryabkov met with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns as co-chairs of the working group on political coordination under the Russian-U.S. presidential commission.

The two had an "extensive exchange of opinions on the further development of bilateral relations and a number of relevant problems on the international agenda," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
