DUSHANBE. July 25 (Interfax) - A cache containing grenades and cartridges has been found on the premises of the Dushanbe construction materials plant, the Tajik Interior Ministry said on Monday.
The cache may date back to the civil war years, the ministry said.
In all, the police found 18 RGD-5 and F-1 grenades, 13 infantry combat vehicle projectiles, 23 rounds for the KPVT large-caliber tank machine gun, about 5,000 cartridges of various calibers and two defunct antipersonnel mines, the ministry said.
"The case is being investigated," the ministry added.
About 750 pieces of firearms have been seized in Tajikistan since the beginning of this year, the ministry said.
The police seized 124 submachine guns, 100 pistols, 93 shotguns and carbines, 70 firearms of other models and plenty of ammunition, Interior Minister Abdurahim Qahhorov said last week.
A total of 33,703 pieces of firearms have been seized since December 1994, when the Tajik president signed an ordinance "On Voluntary Disarmament and Confiscation of Firearms, Ammunition and Military Hardware from Citizens."
