Abkhazia willing to sign no-war deal with Georgia - acting Abkhaz president

SUKHUMI. July 28 (Interfax) - Abkhazia is willing to sign a full-scale agreement with Georgia ruling out a new war with it, but will not consider the return of refugees, acting Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab said.

"Abkhazia is considering the possibility of signing a full-scale agreement with Georgia on non-resumption of war without any preconditions," Ankvab told Interfax on Thursday.

"We have adhered to this line earlier as well, and this was late Abkhaz President Sergei Bagapsh's firm position," he said.

"As for refugees, Abkhazia has returned Georgian refugees to the Gali district. The return of Georgian refugees to other regions of Abkhazia has not been considered and cannot be considered," Ankvab said.

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze had said earlier that "Georgia views as acceptable all constructive proposals concerning a peaceful settlement of the conflict and return of refugees from Abkhazia to their homes with dignity."
