MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian and Mongolian armed forces will hold a joint counter-terrorism exercise to destroy illegal armed groups, Russia Ground Troops spokesman Lt. Col. Sergei Vlasov told Interfax-AVN on Wednesday.
"The Selenga maneuvers will be held on the grounds of the Tavan-Tolgoi training center in Mongolia from September 1 to 10, 2011. The subject: "Planning a joint counter-terrorism operation with blocking and destroying irregular armed groups," Vlasov said.
Up to 250 servicemen from each side will take part in the exercise, he said. Russia will be represented by the 36th Army forces from the Eastern Military District, he said.
Preliminary preparations for the joint counter-terrorism operation will be held in the Russian town of Kyakhta (the Republic of Buryatia).
Ground Troops Commander-in-chief Col. Gen. Alexander Postnikov will take charge of the preparations and the exercise.
