Medvedev submits 2010 military base agreement with S. Ossetia to Duma for ratification (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - President Dmitry Medvedev has submitted to the State Duma for ratification an agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on the unified Russian military base in South Ossetian territory, the Kremlin press service reported on Monday.

The agreement, signed in Moscow on April 7, 2010, regulates matters of the jurisdiction of the sides with regards to the Russian military base in South Ossetia, and establishes the procedure of using armed formations from the base together with the armed forces of South Ossetia to protect the sovereignty and security of Russia and South Ossetia.

The agreement also describes the procedure of the use and operation of facilities of the military base and other real estate, and the conditions of using sections of land. It defines the status of the personnel of the military base, families of military and civilian personnel and other matters related to the functioning of the military base.
