Gabala radar lease by Russia no threat to Armenia - official

YEREVAN. Aug 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The use by Russia of the Gabala radar station in Azerbaijan does not conflict with Armenian interests, David Tonoian, Armenia's First Deputy Defense Minister, said.

"Given the Armenian-Russian allied relations, we do not regard the operation by Russia of the Gabala radar station as an action conflicting with Armenia's security interests. On the contrary, broadening the involvement of our strategic ally and other partners in our neighbor's military sphere contributes to the security of the entire region," Tonoian told the Armenian Mediamax agency.

As regards the Russian military base in Armenia, this is due to the military-political interests of both countries, he said.

"It is no secret to anyone that the Russian military base is an integral element of the Armenian security system," Tonoian said.
