Russia hopes for stabilization in UK cities hit by riots

MOSCOW. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Russia has expressed hope that the British government will take steps to stabilize the situation in a number of cities hit by massive riots.

"We hope that the British government will make all necessary efforts to stabilize the situation," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

Rioting and looting have continued for four days in a number of British cities, including London, Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool. Police are trying to maintain public safety and order. Four hundred people have been arrested, some have been injured.

"Due to this, Russian citizens staying in the United Kingdom are recommended to show vigilance and be cautious and avoid visiting the parts of the British cities that are engulfed by the unrest," the ministry said.

The task of the Russian Embassy in London in this situation is to ensure safety of Russian citizens in the UK. "The Embassy is in regular close contact with law enforcement authorities," the statement said.
