KYIV. Aug 10 (Interfax) - Kyiv's Pechersky District Court has turned down a motion by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's defense team, which challenges the prosecutors in her trial dealing with the 2009 Ukrainian-Russian gas supply agreements.
The court ruling says that it did not find reasons to grant the motion. "There is no information of any violations on the part of the prosecutors," Justice Rodion Kyreyev said.
Tymoshenko challenged prosecutors Liliya Frolova and Oleksandr Mykytenko, claiming that they were violating the constitution and other laws. "They were obliged to stop the hearings when they realized that there was no crime," Tymoshenko said at the court.
The prosecutors called Tymoshenko's claims groundless.
Tymoshenko was taken into custody during the proceedings on August 5, 2011, and has been held at the Lukyanivsky detention facility since then.
On the same day, a number of parliamentarians supporting Tymoshenko decided to start an open-ended street protest against her arrest.
The court motivated its decision to put Tymoshenko into custody by "the defendant's systematic violations; in particular, she obstructed the questioning of witnesses."
