MAKHACHKALA. Aug 10 (Interfax) - A group of militants has been trapped in Makhachkala and the area has been declared a counter-terror regime zone, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) told Interfax on Wednesday.
The trapped militants are suspected of committing a series of terror attacks, including attempts on the lives of law enforcement officials, a NAC spokesman said.
The counter-terror regime was declared in the area at 3:15 p.m. Moscow time.
"Fire was opened at the militants after they refused to surrender following talks. An operation is on to neutralize them," the spokesman said.
