Energia designs new modifications of Soyuz MS, Progress MS spaceships

MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's Energia Space Rocket Corporation based in Korolyov near Moscow has designed new modifications of the manned Soyuz MS space ship and the Progress MS space freighter equipped with the GLONASS/GPS and COSPAS-SARSAT systems, Energia said in a statement posted on its web site.

Energia's Scientific and Technical Council met on Thursday to hear reports on the above two projects, both of which were commissioned by the federal Roscosmos space agency.

The modernization of onboard spaceship systems using Russian-made equipment of the new generation, the GLONASS/GPS navigation system and the COSPAS-SARSAT satellite system will make them more reliable and increase their functional capacity.
