Transfer of power to Kim Jong Il's son will not improve N. Korean policy - Seoul official (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - Seoul is not expecting any changes in North Korea's policy as a result of a possible transfer of power from Kim Jong Il to his son Kim Jong Un.

"It is hard to imagine the possibility of changing North Korea's policy following the transfer of power to the successor. So far, no deviation from the Songun policy has been observed. And on the whole, we have not seen any political changes," South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan told Interfax.

The possible transfer of power in North Korea will not cause instability, either, he said.

"It looks like the transfer of power to the successor is taking place in North Korea when Kim Jong Il is in good health and the situation is stable. However, our government has not ruled out any option, and it continues closely following North Korea's internal affairs and foreign policy. We are prepared for any situation," he said.
