Russian Space Systems present newest satellite instruments at MAKS 2011

MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Space Systems Corporation will present space instruments and Glonass products at the MAKS 2011 international aerospace show that opens on Tuesday, Corporation General Director, Glonass General Designer Yuri Urlichich told Interfax-AVN.

"The Russian Space Systems Corporation, the head organization in the Glonass project, thinks that popularization of this system is very important. We should use such an important exhibition floor as MAKS. We will emphasize once again that Glonass is necessary for national security and beneficial for socioeconomic projects," he said.

The corporation will make a 3-D Glonass Island presentation at the show.

"We will also present the GEOS-3 chipset created to our order and with our money for the Glonass/GPS navigation systems. This chipset will be produced serially in the near future and ensure broad use of Glonass technologies in transport," he said.

The corporation will also present programs it has initiated.

"Together with partners, we present the ERA Glonass program, which gives a rapid response to road accidents with the use of navigation and information technologies. We will tell visitors about the fulfillment of the Social Glonass program in regions," he said.

The corporation and its units, including the Precision Instruments Research Institute and the MEI Design Bureau, will present a number of novelties and instruments for Earth observation.

"We will display an analog of the multi-zonal scanner, which is being used onboard the Electro-L geostationary weather satellite. This is a unique instrument, and we are proud of it. Earth photographs taken by the satellite will also be on display. The pictures made from an altitude of 36,000 meters carry important information about atmospheric processes. That data is vital for precise weather forecasts," Urlichich said.
