ZHUKOVSKY. Aug 18 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian-Indian BrahMos joint venture has modified its supersonic anti-ship missile, which are to be launched from Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets. The remodeling of the jets is almost over in India, BrahMos CEO Sivathanu Pillai told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"Hopefully, the first launches from a jet will be done by the end of 2012. The missile is ready," he said.
"We are modifying the planes. India's HAL Corporation does the works," he said. The jets were assigned by India, Pillai said, noting that test launches would be done after the modification.
The first BrahMos missile will be fired from a submerged platform in 2011. Later on, the missiles will be fired from submarines, he said.
The missile has been modified for undersea launches and prepared for test firing, he said.
Test launches from a submarine may take place from October 2011 through March 2012.
