Railroad brigade preparing for Center 2011 strategic exercises

ABAKAN. Aug 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen of the fifth separate railroad brigade of the Central Military District have built a pontoon bridge across the Yenisei River while preparing for the Center 2011 strategic exercises, the Khakassia government said on Monday.

"The railroad brigade laid down railroad track on a five-kilometer stretch from the Abakan-Taishet railroad line to the Yenisei River and erected a 500-meter pontoon bridge there," he said.

The current is swift, so the servicemen used multi-tonne anchors to secure the pontoon bridge, the government said.

The servicemen are testing the operation of a ferry boat, which links the bridge components on both banks of the river. A train carrying military hardware and a motor convoy will cross the bridge later on.
