MOSCOW. Sept 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The Center 2011 operative and strategic exercises will not involve large forces, General Staff Chief Gen. Nikolai Makarov told a Monday press conference in Moscow.
"There will be no large forces, such as armies. We will have no more than brigades," he said.
The media had criticized the Defense Ministry's method of preparations for large wars, and the criticism was founded, Makarov said. The Armed Forces command analyzed the conflicts of the past 10-15 years in the course of the military reform. As a result, Center 2011 will concentrate on preparations for local and regional wars, he said.
The exercises will be held on an area of 4,000-5,000 kilometers in depth and in width.
