MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The Israelis and Palestinians must resolve their conflict themselves, without the Quartet of international mediators being involved in this process, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said.
The way to solve this problem is direct talks and taking its constant discussion off the agenda of international organizations and mass media. It creates an unhealthy atmosphere, he said in an interview with Interfax.
Asked whether his position still consists in that Israel and Palestine must solve their problems without the Quartet mediation, Lieberman said that it [the position] has remained invariable.
I believe that excessive activity on the Israeli-Palestinian track is unconstructive, he said.
All peace treaties that Israel has signed with Egypt and Jordan were reached as a result of talks without international mediators, the Israeli foreign minister recalled.
Moreover, unfortunately, we do not see that the world community has amassed great experience in resolving international conflicts, he said.
If someone wants to realize their peacekeeping talents, today they have many opportunities in the rest of the world: these are tensions between India and Palestine over Kashmir, tensions around North Korea, and, of course, everything that is happening in Afghanistan, Yemen and Syria, Lieberman said.
The best solution to the dispute with Palestinians will be for the whole Quartet without an exception to forget about our existence, Lieberman said earlier.
If everyone, to put it mildly, gets out of here, including the United States, Russia, Europe and the United Nations, we would have agreed much quicker, the Israeli foreign minister said.
