MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman believes the current Syrian regime led by President Bashar Asad has lost its right to exist like the Libyan regime led by Muammar Gaddafi.
Lieberman said in a phone interview with Interfax that he believes a regime that kills thousands of people has no right to exist.
Lieberman said he believes that people who follow the events on the Middle East are asking themselves why the Syrian regime should stay if the Libyan regime has been overthrown.
Lieberman also said an exacerbation of the situation in Syria threatens Israel's security.
The Israeli foreign minister said Asad has threatened to destabilize the situation in the entire Middle East and attack Tel Aviv and civilian centers, adding that Israel takes these statements very seriously.
Lieberman also said he believes the current Syrian administration is increasingly falling under the influence of Iran and the movement Hezbollah.
