Israel develops air-based radar for tracking moving land targets

TEL AVIV. Oct 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Israel Aircraft Industries Concern has created the ELM 2054 radar system capable of detecting moving land targets, a Concern representative told Interfax-AVN.

ELM 2054 is the latest product of the Elta Company, a subsidiary of the Concern. The system will reconnoiter moving targets in the real-time mode and under any weather conditions, he said.

The radar made its premiere at the AUSA 2011 military technologies show in Washington last week, he said.

"This is a module system of open architecture. The radar may be installed on small air-based platforms, such as tactical drones, small reconnaissance aircraft and observation balloons," he said.

In the opinion of Concern Deputy General Director Nissim Hadas, "ELM 2054 will be saving lives on the battlefield."

The Concern also presented in Washington the Atalef tactical observation drone, the Rex self-propelled support vehicle and the Ghost helicopter drone, as well as electronic and optical sensors for day and night observation, various types of radars and tracking systems for the infantry.
