ST. PETERSBURG. Oct 17 (Interfax) - The owner of several gambling venues in St. Petersburg, Viktor Sidorov, has been arrested on suspicion of offering a bribe to an assistant prosecutor, the Russian Investigative Committee's investigative department for St. Petersburg has reported.
Sidorov gave the senior assistant prosecutor of a district prosecutor's office over 600,000 rubles in bribes personally or through intermediaries between June and October 2011, according to investigators.
The bribe-taker was involved in search operations in St. Petersburg and in the Leningrad region and would inform the suspect about the checks planned, it said.
On September 30, 2011, Sidorov passed 250,000 rubles to the assistant prosecutor via an intermediary, who was detained by the Federal Security Service's regional department.
Sidorov has been taken into custody at a court order. His two accomplices remain at large with travel restrictions against the pledge of proper conduct.
