Official: Someone could have been making "terrorist gear" in ruined Bronnitsy building

BRONNITSY. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The commission for dealing with the aftermath of the household gas explosion in Bronnitsy, a town in the Moscow region, thinks someone could have been making an explosive device in the ruined apartment building, said Vasily Gromov, the deputy head of the regional government.

"Various theories are being considered except that of a terror attack. Someone could have been making an explosive device in an apartment. But I don't think a bomb had been planted there," Gromov told reporters.

Repairs done unprofessionally is the main theory for now, he added.

"Repairs were probably underway. However, the theory that a gas container was being filled is unlikely, and so is the theory that gas stoppers were not turned in the house or in an apartment. The residents would have smelt gas then," he said.

An explosion went off and a fire broke out in an apartment building in Bronnitsy on Monday evening. The explosion was presumably caused by a household gas explosion. No information is available about the whereabouts of four residents.
