NAZRAN. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Ingush law enforcement officers killed 36 people suspected of belonging to illegal armed groups in an attempt to detain them in the first nine months of 2011, and 11 others were detained, Savarbek Shadiyev, an acting chief of staff of the Ingush Interior Ministry, said at a ministry board session in Magas on Tuesday.
"Forty-seven leaders and members of the criminal underworld were neutralized in the first nine months of this year, including 36 who were killed after offering armed resistance and 11 detained. Investigative procedures in relation to them are under way," Shadiyev said.
Ingush Interior Minister Alexander Trofimov said the situation in the republic has noticeably stabilized now compared to previous years, and the number of militant sorties has declined significantly. He, however, called for stronger action against general crime.
Ingush Prosecutor Yury Turygin said the situation in Ingushetia is currently radically different from that in 2010.
"While 104 attempts on the life of law enforcement officials were committed last year, only one third of this number of crimes has been registered this year," he said.
He complained, however, that the search for people suspected of corruption is not being handled properly.
