MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has supplied to Vietnam the second mobile coastal missile system, Bastion, with the Yakhont unified supersonic anti-ship cruise missile, a source from the defense industry told Interfax-AVN.
"The system was shipped to the customer last week," the source said.
Thus, Rosoboronexport and NPO Mashinostroyeniya have completed the contract for the supply of two Bastion systems to Vietnam, he said.
The contract was signed in 2005, he recalled.
Neither Rosoboronexport, nor NPO Mashinostroyeniya commented on the contract with Vietnam, citing the confidential nature of this information.
The Bastion mobile coastal missile system with the 3M55E "Yakhont" unified supersonic anti-ship cruise missile is designed to protect a coastline more than 600 kilometers long and to destroy various classes and types of ships operating as part of an amphibious formation, convoy, a carrier battle group, as well as lone ships and ground radiocontrast targets in intense fire and electronic countermeasure conditions.
One set may include up to 36 Yakhont missiles.
