Russia, U.S. should improve relations, as this determines world's stability - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Russia and the United States should improve relations, because this determines stability of the rest of the world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Stability of the modern international relations depends in large part, if not largely, on relations between Russia and America, taking into account the influence the two countries have on many states and on many regions," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with the radio stations Echo Moskvy, the Voice of Russia, and Radio Rossii on Friday.

This can be seen from the fact that "countries in virtually any region of the globe seek to have normal relations with both America and Russia, along with the European Union and other major players," he said.

"As to whether these relations could be better, surely there is no limit to perfection, and nobody's perfect, as a character in the film Some Like It Hot said, and therefore we work on an intensive and constructive agenda," he said.

After Barack Obama became president of the U.S., "changes have become quite striking," Lavrov said.
