Northern Fleet's air crews preparing for long-duration drill

SEVEROMORSK. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The Russian Northern Fleet's air crews have flown at least ten shifts in a drill to practice Sukhoi Su-33 and Su-25UTG fighter jets' landing on the deck of the heavy aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov, in the Barents Sea, a Northern Fleet spokesman told Interfax-AVN.

"Pilots of the ship's fighter jet regiment, under Col. Yevgeny Kuznetsov's command, are practicing interception techniques in easy and severe weather conditions," he said,

The Northern Fleet's air crews will take part in the Admiral Kuznetsov's long-duration journey, he also said.

During the drill the main emphasis will be laid on the training of young pilots, the spokesman said. Since the exercise started 11 shifts have been flown and 114 interception maneuvers performed, he said.
