BISHKEK. Oct 24 (Interfax) - The presidential election due in Kyrgyzstan on October 30 is the last chance for pro-Bakiyev forces to hold power, Chairman of the Kyrgyz National Security Committee Keneshbek Dushebayev told Interfax.
"The victory in this election is their last chance to stay in politics," he said.
It is not ruled out that supporters of Kurmanbek Bakiyev, the ex-president toppled in April 2010, may take destabilization attempts after the election results are summed up in November, he said.
Dushebayev does not believe in their ability to take revenge. "Two revolutions are sufficient for making people wiser and less responsive to the promises and appeals of politicians," he said.
He refused to name the pro-Bakiyev presidential candidates. "I want to avoid any black or white PR; our citizens know them pretty well," he said.
Dushebayev suggested "a thorough study of the biographies [of 19 presidential candidates] and a recollection of the positions they held under President Bakiyev and weeping at the mention of their patron's deeds."
"That information will show whether Bakiyev is taking part in these elections, especially as we know which candidate and in what form he receives assistance in his election campaign from the former president," Dushebayev said.
Kyrgyz law enforcers drafted an action plan for combating possible post-election destabilization, he said. "Law enforcers, volunteers and people will not permit an outbreak of tensions in Kyrgyzstan," he said.
He does not expect "attacks of terrorists and religious extremists in the pre-election period either." The security services are taking preventive measures together with the police. "A group of terrorists was seized in the southern city of Osh on October 8-9, and ten accomplices are wanted. There is information that they will be seized soon," Dushebayev said.
